Sega Superstars Tennis: 73%

Sega Superstars Tennis is great fun, so its a pity that the actual tennis is so poor.

I'll get the bad bit out the way first: the actual tennis. By no means was I expecting to find Top Spin level tennis, but I was not expecting it to be this bad; there are a couple of types of shots by they are totally ineffective so you just end up hitting the ball from one side of the court to the other until your opponent can't get to the ball (one of the few things you can do is choose the direction of your shot). The controls are very simple, which means its easy for anyone to play it, but playing the game suffers greatly as a result.

Now thats out the way, I can move on to the mini games. These are based on many Sega classics from House of the Dead to Jet Set Radio and are great fun. However, some of the (cough cough Sonic) are a bit unimaginative: "Collect the Rings" and then "Collect the Moving Rings". You get the idea. However, the mini games are still thoroughly enjoyable and save the game from being a total flop. You can play them co-operatively but this does not really work - its like playing a single player game with another person just standing there.

Online play on Xbox Live had an annoying habit to stop the ball when the opponent was hitting it but other than that rather glaring point was fine.

The main bulk of Sega Superstars is the Superstars mode. In this career like mode, you have to complete matches and challenges on themed courts (from classic Sega franchises) in order to unlock more matches and challenges on themed courts. The different courts mixes it up a bit and this is where you can unlock the mini games and more characters.

Sega Superstars Tennis has some brilliant mini games and is good fun, but its let down by the actual tennis being poor. Who would I recommend it to? Kids. (I say kids but strangely its a 7+ !)
