Rock Band hasn’t exactly being selling well in Europe (as explained in this post), and one of the huge problems is supply, or the lack of it. Because of that, we’ve only recently been able to get our mitts on the game. Playstation 3 and Wii owners are still waiting for the game to even be released on their platform. The Xbox 360 version was released in November, and the new instruments are yet to make an appearance.
So. Rock Band. I remember touting the original “the best thing since sliced bread”, so the bar was pretty high for Rock Band 2. Thankfully, it dosen’t disappoint.

Music games make or break on their song selection, which is rather lucky for Rock Band: on the disc there are eighty four tracks on the disc. Add to that another twenty free DLC tracks and the ability to transfer the songs from Rock Band 1 into Rock Band 2 (for the small fee of 400 Microsoft points), Rock Band is doing pretty well. Out of a pool of one hundred and fifty or so songs, there is bound to be at least one song you like! The track choice is very diverse, with an excellent mix of old classics and newer hits. Did I mention the five hundred downloadable songs, including eighteen ACDC live tracks? The full list is here. Seriously, there are so many downloadable songs for Rock Band, you could spend the equivalent of buying the game fifteen times over. With new songs every single week, you can very easily keep coming back to Rock Band.

Rock Band 2 looks much the same as the original Rock Band. In fact, it is almost identical. It doesn’t just look much the same as the original, Rock Band 2 plays much the same as the original as well. But hey, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing; why change a winning formula? Thankfully though, the major flaws in the original have been fixed, so you can do online Band World Tour, compete in “Battle of the Bands” and your band members won’t be fixed to a single instrument so you’re free to change instruments.
There isn’t really much more to say about Rock Band 2 – its practically flawless and literally anybody can and will enjoy it. Go and buy it. Now!
