Reivew – Music Monstars (DS) (+ audio review)

musicmonstars

This is an unheralded triumph. I'm serious. Forget the arguments about Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Get this.

It's for the DS, it's a music game. Basically, you tap on the indicated notes at the right time. Pretty much the same as RB and GH, although in a different layout. The playlist is great. Everything from the Final Countdown to Dragostea Din Tei (Numa Numa for those who don't know) to The Entertainer. It's not a very big playlist, but it's good, and it's fun, and it distracted me from my usual pursuits for a few hours.

It even has a composer mode, although it's about as advanced as the one on Guitar Hero World Tour. Your instruments consist of various types of drums, various types of Bass guitar, and various types of organ/piano, and you can create whatever you like. This also contains a Freestyle mode where you can play whatever you like. If you can't play the instrument you're using, there's not much you can do, but it's still fun.

There is a career mode, where you unlock all the songs, but it's pretty much there for the sake of it, and nothing to comment on.

This game will probably be ignored by everyone in any community, which is a pity. I almost prefer this to Guitar Hero.

That's it, I have nothing else I can say. It's great fun, but it's a tiny game. Really, there's nothing more to it that what I put above. Here, I'll put the highlights of the tracklist on for you to flesh this out a bit:

Dragostea Din Tei

The Entertainer

Ghostbusters

I want to Break Free

Can't get you out of my Head

The Final Countdown

That's it. Really!

Screens don't do this game justice - hence the videos.

+ Awesome songs

+ Fun

- Not enough tracks

- Composer mode doesn't work very efficiently

- Career mode is there for the sake of it
