Review – Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwrek Showdown

I’m guessing that half of Xbox owners own or at one point owned the original Feeding Frenzy, which is part of the Arcade package and comes on the hard drives of other versions of the 360. I must admit, I liked the original. Its a simple idea; eat smaller fish and avoid being eaten by bigger fish, but nonetheless, it fun, and thats what I want from an XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) game; it to be simple, but fun. I should also probably say at this point Feeding Frenzy is squared aimed at children, but that dosen’t mean adults can’t enjoy it too.

So Feeding Frenzy 2. At first, it seems just the same as the original, and that remains for the first couple of levels, until you are told that you can suddenly jump out of the water. This thankfully adds a bit of variety to the game, which is otherwise repetitive. However, after playing a couple more levels, I found the game getting a bit boring again, although I did find earning the rank “Bottom Feeder” kinda amusing. I wonder if they realised what they were saying…

New features. Well, there are new fish and new species of fish, some more environments, including one in the dark! As I mentioned before, you can jump out of the water in some of the levels. There are also some more playable fish. The graphics are also slicker than in Feeding Frenzy 1, and everything is just generally better. There is also now multiplayer and a couple of other modes – you can do a time trial.

But is the game worth getting? Its certainly enjoyable, although its best played in short bursts. If you’ve got kids then yes, they should love it. Otherwise? Is it worth the 800 MS points? Well, if you’re looking for something thats fun, simple and entertaining, yeah, go for it. If you’re not, this game isn’t particularly outstanding, its just good, clean fun.
