Finally, Creative Assembly have released a demo for Empire, which can be downloaded on steam here : http://store.steampowered.com/app/10620/. However, having eagerly downloaded it, I and many others have,to our dismay found that the auto-detect graphics settings do not work properly, restricting it to medium and not giving you the option to exceed this. This problem does not apply to every computer, just some, seemingly randomly, regardless of specs. The game still looks OK and plays well, but people with worse PC specs than mine are running it at "High" or "Ultra", so I hope that Creative Assembly realise this and change it before the final release only a couple of days away on 3rd March (UK, Australia) and 4th March (US).

On a lighter note though, even on my medium limited graphics settings the land battles were an improvement on Medieval II and the sea battles looked incredible - I can't wait to get my hands on a full working copy and play them on ultra.
If you have time, or are a huge fan of the series like me, get the demo now. If you are a sane, patient human being, wait two weeks for the full version and hope that they've fixed the auto-detect bug.
