The Best Games Ever? Part 1: Best Selling Console Games

According to the combined wisdom of the internet (aka wikipedia, click here for the full article), these are the ten best selling console games ever.

1. Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green (Game Boy – 20.08 million approximately: 10.23 million in Japan. 9.85 million in US)]
2. Nintendogs (DS – 18.67 million)
3. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES – 18 million)
4. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2 – 14.89 million shipped)
5. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (DS – 14.77 million)
6. Pokémon Gold and Silver (Game Boy Color – 14.51 million approximately: 7.6 million in US, 6.91 million in Japan)
7. New Super Mario Bros. (DS – 14.16 million)
8. Super Mario Land (Game Boy – 14 million)
9. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (GBA – 13 million)
10. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (DS – 12.98 million)

What is interesting and (and also strange) about this list is that none of the current games for the current gen consoles (not including portable current gen consoles). Surely there is something wrong with this; there are more gamers now than ever before yet none of the massive titles from the last year or two make the top ten. Surely thats not right? • Strangely I only own two of those games, lol. I'm pretty sure the fastest selling game of all time (GTA, can't remember which one) should be on there.

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is at number 11, so just misses out. Its sold 12 million copies according to wikipedia.
