After looking at Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) games on our last podcast, Nometalk 2009.2, and playing them extensively since, we thought we’d run down our top five essential Xbox Live Arcade purchases.

5. Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 2

Great fun little RPG adventure, but be aware of the adult nature.

4. Portal: Still Alive

If you haven’t already got this brilliant game, then go and get it now. If you’ve already got The Orange Box version of this game, then unless you’re a massive fan of the game, the extra fourteen levels don’t justify the outlay.

3. The Maw

The Maw

Not your average arcade title. The Maw is irresistibly brilliant – a simple 3D adventure, The Maw is just brilliant fun to play. At 800 Microsoft Points, its a steal.

2. Castle Crashers

This hand drawn four player action fighting RPG is great fun to play. Its a simple concept – fight people off – but it is so much fun!

1. Braid

This 2D puzzle game is just brilliant. Its sort of a cross between the original Mario and Prince of Persia. Seriously, this platformer is so good, you should go and get it now!

[ Buy it now ] for 1200 Microsoft Points (or if you’re fast enough and a Gold member, get it for 800 points as part of ‘Deal of the Week’) or [ get the demo ]
